After reading an article by National Geographic about food waste, we began to discuss ways to bring awareness to this global issue. Inspired by the food trucks lined up right outside our office building, this imaginary passion project brings our love of branding and food together for a great cause. Would you #EatUgly?
Learn how you can fight against food waste by eating at the National Geographic Food Truck.
Up to 30% of produce is never harvested or sold simply because its color, shape, or size does not meet strict supermarket standards.
At National Geographic, we believe that ugly produce is too good to waste. In the United States, 30-40% of the food we grow winds up in landfills where it decays and releases methane, a greenhouse gas. Ugly produce doesn’t belong in landfills – it belongs on our plates.
Every aspect of the National Geographic Food Truck dining experience is reusable. All food containers, utensils, napkins, and food scraps are disposed of in on-site compost and recycling bins. The compost is made available to local farmers.
If food waste in America is reduced by just 15% we can feed up to 25 million people every year.
Spread the word about reducing food waste with a #EatUgly t-shirt. Made of 100% organic cotton, these tees get the conversation started.
